Vulgar Is The Best Medicine: June 28, 2025: What The Fuck Is Wrong With These People?
Seriously. I don't get it.
If you've been paying even a modicum of attention, you've probably noticed a particularly infuriating form of cognitive dissonance sweeping through conservative circles like an outbreak of chlamydia at the RNC: The insistence that transgender individuals are "mentally ill," coupled simultaneously with the ruthless defunding and denial of mental health care explicitly for trans people.
Let's unpack this 1996 US Women's Olympic level feat of illogical gymnastics, shall we? (Shout out to Kerri Strug for teaching an entire generation not to let circumstances prevent you from achieving greatness.)
But I (predictably) digress:
On one hand, you've got maladjusted Turnip-fellating commentators and pearl-clutching politicians who insist with the unfounded certainty of someone who thinks the barista is into them, that being transgender is a "mental disorder." Take, for example, the increasingly shrill rhetoric from conservative pundits such as Matt Walsh, who has famously and repeatedly said something to the effect of "Transgenderism is a mental illness and should be treated as such." Yet, in a truly breathtaking act of hypocrisy, these same troglodytic twatwaffles are often the loudest advocates for legislation designed to strip trans people of access to vital mental health services.
Historical perspective makes their hypocrisy even clearer. Decades ago, homosexuality was similarly vilified and pathologized as a mental illness. The American Psychiatric Association only removed homosexuality from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) in 1973, marking a critical turning point in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. Today, the conservative strategy seems determined to roll back the clock, echoing past prejudices in their attempt to legislate away the humanity of transgender people.
This isnโt just crueltyโitโs deliberate ignorance wrapped in performative morality. Itโs akin to shouting that Dave is drowning, then immediately defunding lifeguard services because, in their twisted reasoning, "Dave shouldn't have gone swimming in the first place." It's the moral equivalent of "If you aren't doing anything wrong, then you don't have anything to worry about," except for the fact that It's nonsensical, morally bankrupt, and undeniably malicious.
Moreover, this hypocrisy comes at a human cost. Studies consistently demonstrate that mental health support drastically reduces the risk of depression and suicide among transgender youth and adults. Yet, policies across numerous states are being introduced to systematically deny access to therapy and gender-affirming care, leaving already vulnerable individuals without essential support.
While I'm at it, I would be remiss if I didn't address another disturbing facet of this hypocrisy: The religious angle. Many of these same individuals loudly declare that transgender people are inherently sinful and destined for eternal punishment. Consider what this implies: their vision of God is a deity who deliberately creates human beings as transgender, only to gleefully condemn them to eternal torment for existing as they were created. This isn't faithโit's sadism wrapped in scripture. To worship a being who intentionally creates people solely to punish them endlessly is to embrace cruelty as a divine mandate to be the shittiest person possible.
To the politicians and pundits peddling this absurdity: Pick a fucking lane. Either acknowledge your cruelty openly or admit your fear isn't genuinely about "religious beliefs," or "mental health,"โ(or at times even trans people themselves,)โit's about power, control, and your fragile discomfort with human diversity. Perhaps it's your existential fear that genuine mental health support might lead to acceptance, understanding, and empathy-driven legislationโconcepts historically threatening to those invested in maintaining power through division and bigotry.
Because let's be blunt: Denying health care to those you label as "ill" isn't merely hypocrisy; It's a uniquely vile form of moral cowardice. And you should be fucking ashamed.
This will be my signoff for the foreseeable future.
If this shit is hitting too close to homeโif the hopelessness, exhaustion, or dread has started to feel too heavyโplease donโt keep it to yourself. Political collapse shouldnโt take you with it.
